Skipton High Street

Skipton life has revolved around the market, church and High Street for a thousand years.  The Society seeks to work with businesses and others to maintain an attractive High Street with a viable market and a variety of traders and good community facilities.  Society members including the Watkinsons have also recorded the High Street and in 2010-2012 (with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and others) a community project headed by Sue Wrathmell was run to research some of the ginnels and alleys around it.

The outcome was three A3 fold-out leaflets: Leaflets 1 and 2 are now available from Tourist Information, Skipton Castle shop or the Library at £1 a copy. Revenues will be used to pay for further reprints.

Leaflet 1, Ginnels and Yards. Recently revised and republished in 2016.  Thanks to Skipton Town Council for their help towards funding republication of this leaflet.

Leaflet 2, Middle Row.  Now out of print, to be republished when funds allow.

Leaflet 3, A Skipton history in 54 buildings – a Timeline. Published March 2016.
